I am starting this from Ohio because the heartbreak of Athena Strand’s story has no borders... We (the signers of this petition) believe that for a crime this depraved, justice must be absolute.

Even from hundreds of miles away, the weight of this tragedy is felt by every parent and every person who believes our children deserve to be safe in their own front yards.

7-year-old Athena was a beautiful, innocent child excitedly waiting for her Christmas gifts when she was stolen from her own driveway. The details that have emerged since then are nothing short of a nightmare. We have heard the chilling evidence that Tanner Horner didn't just take her life; he did so with a level of cruelty and mockery that defies human understanding.

As of April 2026, Horner has pleaded guilty to capital murder. The case is now in the hands of a jury for the sentencing phase. They have one final, monumental decision to make: Life in prison or the Death Penalty.

We (the signers of this petition) believe that for a crime this depraved—the kidnapping and cold-blooded murder of a defenseless child—justice must be absolute.

We are petitioning Wise County District Attorney James Stainton to ensure that every possible resource is used to see the maximum punishment carried out. We stand together, regardless of where we live, to demand that this monster faces the ultimate accountability for his actions.
