Justice for a Mother: A Family Torn Apart by a Broken System

The Issue

What if your biggest mistake was the only thing people saw, no matter how hard you worked to fix it? What if the people meant to protect your children were the ones putting them in danger? What if, after doing everything right, after proving yourself time and time again, the system still refused to give you back your children?

This is the heart-wrenching reality of a mother who has fought against all odds to reunite with her children—only to be blocked by a system that refuses to see her growth, her strength, or the injustice at hand.

She is not asking for perfection—no parent is perfect. She is not denying her past—she owns it. She has made mistakes, but what good parent hasn’t?

She has done the work to heal, to grow, and to rebuild her life. Yet, the system—the same system that claims to stand for family reunification and rehabilitation—has turned its back on her.

And while they keep her children from her, they are the ones truly putting them in danger.

A Story of Trauma, Strength, and Survival

This mother’s journey has been one of unimaginable pain.

She is a survivor—a survivor of sexual abuse at the hands of a predator who not only stole her innocence but destroyed the lives of those around her.

That predator? Jason Cannon’s biological father.

The same man who shattered her life, shattered her son’s life, and left a trail of trauma behind him.

The pain was overwhelming. The trauma unbearable. She suffered a mental breakdown—not because she was weak, but because she was a human being trying to survive something no one should ever have to endure.

Instead of offering support, instead of recognizing the hell she had been through, the system took her children away.

Not because she didn’t love them.

Not because she hurt them.

But because she needed help.

She Could Have Given Up—But She Fought Instead

There were many moments where she could have surrendered, where she could have let the system win. But she refused.

She fought back. She fought for herself, for her healing, and most of all—for her children.

She did not let trauma define her. She did not let the past destroy her.

She rebuilt herself from the ground up.

And yet, despite all her work, despite everything she has overcome, the system still won’t give her children back.

She Has Done Everything Right—So Why is She Still Being Punished?

✅ She has passed every drug and alcohol test. She is completely clean and stable.

✅ She has arranged transportation for her children. Even when they were taken from her, she ensured they had safe rides to their care home.

✅ She has committed to therapy, counseling, and mental health support. She has worked through her trauma and emerged stronger.

✅ She has taken responsibility for her past. She does not hide from it—she learns from it.

✅ She put her children’s safety above all else. When they were making dangerous choices, she called the police on them herself to keep them from harm.

✅ She has never given up on them.

So why is she still being told she is “unlikely” to get her children back?

Her Children Are in Danger—The System is Failing Them

The foster care system claims to act in the best interest of the children—but let’s be real.

Right now, her children are in care, and they are not safe.

 • They are vulnerable.

 • They are being exposed to environments where they are at risk of neglect and further trauma.

 • They are being kept from the one person who has fought relentlessly for them— their mother.

The system is failing them by keeping them away from a parent who has proven her commitment to change and growth.

A Son Who Stepped Up—Because He Knows the Truth

After 12 years apart, someone saw what the system refuses to acknowledge—Jason Cannon, her non-biological son.

Jason is not just someone looking in from the outside. He is a survivor too.

Jason suffered at the hands of the same predator who shattered this mother’s life—his biological father. He understands the depths of trauma, the long road to healing, and the fight it takes to reclaim your life after abuse.

And after 12 years apart, he stepped up.

Not because he was forced to.

Not because someone told him to.

But because he saw a mother who had changed, who had fought, and who deserved her children back.

If he, a survivor of the same horror, can see that this mother has healed, that she is strong, that she is ready—why can’t the system?

The System is Choosing to Ignore the Truth

The people who actually know this mother—her family, her friends, her own children—believe she is ready.

The only people saying otherwise? Social workers and child services. The same system that:

 • Tears families apart instead of working to heal them.

 • Ignores the real dangers in foster care.

 • Punishes parents who admit their mistakes instead of rewarding them for change.

The Government Claims to Believe in Rehabilitation—So Where is Her Second Chance?

If the government truly believes in healing, second chances, and keeping families together, then they need to prove it.

 • They need to listen to the facts.

 • They need to acknowledge her progress.

 • They need to do the right thing and reunite this mother with her children.
