An 80-year-old widow is still fighting for justice against an attempted murder in a witch-branding case in Jharkhand:
An 80-year-old widow, a resident of Dhanbad, Jharkhand, faced horrific violence and an attempt on her life on the night of May 9, 2025, when her own son and his family — wife, son, and daughter — branded her a “witch.” She was brutally beaten with sticks, spat on, verbally abused, and threatened with beheading — all driven by superstition. Miraculously, she escaped and took refuge at her daughter’s home, but her life and dignity remain under threat.

📝🩺Medical reports confirm:
a) Severe blunt trauma to the head and body

b) Acute subdural hemorrhage (left fronto-parieto-temporal region)

c) Altered mental status and cerebral atrophy

⚠ Medical Negligence:
Despite being diagnosed with acute subdural hemorrhage and remaining partially unconscious, the survivor was prematurely discharged from hospital, allegedly due to political or police pressure.

🚨 Denial of Justice and Police Inaction:
Despite:

✅ Submitting a signed FIR application on May 10, 2025 (no receipt provided) 

✅ Filing an online FIR request (Token No. 945799)

✅ Escalating complaints to Jharkhand DGP, CM’s Office, and the PM Office

a) NO FIR has been registered.

b) NO legal action has been taken.

c) NO protection has been given to the survivor or her daughters.

⚠ Breakdown of Law Enforcement:
Although these are cognizable offences, the accused are roaming freely and are threatening the victim’s daughters and their family, reportedly due to collusion with a local political leader who exerts influence over the police and other officials. The accused have repeatedly claimed that they are under the protection of a powerful and influential leader, and that the police cannot take any action against them.

❗We Demand:
a) Immediate registration of FIR against all perpetrators and further proceedings as per the law.
b) Complete medical care and police protection for the survivor.
c) Strict action against police officials who failed their duty and obstructed justice.
d) Independent monitoring by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Commission for Women (NCW) to ensure a fair and unbiased investigation.

This is not just a family matter — it is a grave human rights violation. Witch-branding is a dangerous, superstitious practice targeting poor or elderly women in rural India. When perpetrators go free and police fail to act, it fuels a system of impunity and fear.
We cannot allow an 80-year-old woman to continue living under daily death threats without justice.

80 वर्षीय विधवा महिला पर झारखंड में डायन-बिसाही के मामले में हत्या के प्रयास के खिलाफ अभी भी संघर्ष कर रही है - न्याय के लिए: एक 80 वर्षीय विधवा महिला, जो धनबाद, झारखंड की निवासी हैं, को 9 मई 2025 की रात को उसके बेटे और उसके परिवार — पत्नी, बेटा और बेटी — द्वारा “डायन” बताकर भयानक हिंसा और हत्या के प्रयास का सामना करना पड़ा। उन्हें डंडे से बेरहमी से पीटा गया, उन पर थूका गया, गालियां दी गईं और सिर काटने की धमकी दी गई — ये सब अंधविश्वास के चलते। चमत्कारिक रूप से, वह वहां से बच निकलीं और अपनी बेटी के घर शरण ली, लेकिन उनकी जान और गरिमा अब भी खतरे में है।

⚠ चिकित्सकीय लापरवाही :  

गंभीर सबड्यूरल हेमरेज और आंशिक बेहोशी की स्थिति के बावजूद, जीवित बचे को अस्पताल से समय से पहले छुट्टी दे दी गई, कथित तौर पर राजनीतिक या पुलिस दबाव के चलते। 

🚨न्याय से वंचित और पुलिस की निष्क्रियता: 

हालांकि:  

✅ 10 मई 2025 को हस्ताक्षरित FIR आवेदन जमा किया गया (कोई रसीद नहीं दी गई) ✅ ऑनलाइन FIR (JOFS Portal पर) अनुरोध दाखिल किया (टोकन नंबर 945799) ✅ शिकायतें झारखंड DGP, मुख्यमंत्री कार्यालय और प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय तक पहुँचाई गईं

 

फिर भी:

a) कोई FIR दर्ज नहीं हुई।

b) कोई कानूनी कार्रवाई नहीं हुई।

c) जीवित बची महिला और उसकी बेटियों को कोई सुरक्षा नहीं दी गई।

हालांकि ये संज्ञेय अपराध हैं, आरोपी खुलेआम घूम रहे हैं और पीड़िता की बेटियों और उनके परिवार को धमका रहे हैं, कथित तौर पर एक स्थानीय राजनीतिक नेता से मिलीभगत के कारण, जो पुलिस और अन्य अधिकारियों पर प्रभाव डालता है। आरोपी बार-बार दावा करते रहे हैं कि उन्हें किसी प्रभावशाली व धाकड़ नेता का संरक्षण प्राप्त है, और पुलिस उनका कुछ नहीं बिगाड़ सकती।

c) अपने कर्तव्य में विफल और न्याय में बाधा डालने वाले पुलिस अधिकारियों पर सख्त कार्रवाई हो।

d) निष्पक्ष और स्वतंत्र जांच सुनिश्चित करने के लिए राष्ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग (NHRC) और राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग (NCW) द्वारा निगरानी की जाए।
