Why June 24th is the Day to Celebrate Luna This year, I want to gather and honour Luna on June 24th—Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, the national day of Quebec. It’s a day of celebration, of bonfires, music, and gathering in joy and resilience. But it’s also a day rooted in something older, deeper: the archetype of Jean the Baptist—the wild one. Saint Jean-Baptiste wasn’t a priest or a man of the city. He was a voice crying out from the wilderness, clothed in rough garments, living among the reeds and rivers, eating wild food, and offering blessings to the broken, the wanderers, and the seekers. He stood on the margins and called people back to something true and raw and elemental. He didn’t whisper. He spoke loudly, sometimes fiercely, with passion and purpose. He made people uncomfortable. He made people feel. Luna, in her own way, was like that. She lived in the forest, surrounded by dogs, following her own fierce path. She helped people and animals alike, guided not by social norms but by instinct and empathy. She could be loud, even volatile—but it was never for show. It came from the same fire that drove her to speak up, to love boldly, and to live beyond the bounds of what most people call normal. She was, like Saint Jean-Baptiste, an outsider who belonged to something bigger—something sacred. On June 24th, the tides will be wild and powerful. The moon will be pulling the waters into motion. And so will we—gathering not in sorrow, but in celebration. In memory. In honour of the beautiful, unruly spirit of someone who didn’t just walk the edge, but lived there, barefoot and howling under the stars. Luna, this day is for you. For your wildness, your love, your dogs, your fire. You are not forgotten.
