United for Iran
Mar 31, 2015
Did you know that we’ve saved lives?
Last year, you signed our petition on behalf of Shahram Ahmadi’s mother. You and 30,000 other voices demanded justice and to halt of the execution of Shahram and 32 other Kurds wrongfully imprisoned in Iran.
Our collective campaign literally saved the lives of four of the Kurds sentenced along with Shahram. They were quarantined to be executed, a common practice in Iran for a day or prior to execution. The momentum from the 30,000 signatures enabled us to garner extensive media targeting those inside Iran. In fact, BBC Persian agreed to speak with one of the prisoners (who has a phone in prison) live. Those four were saved and returned back to the regular prison. United for Iran continues to work to protect Shahram and the other prisoners every day.
We wanted to tell you about another equally important case. As you might know, United for Iran is an international nonprofit working for human rights in Iran. The cousin of our very own social media campaigner, Alireza Mousavi, is in prison. Mehdi Khodaei is a human rights organizer and has served 5 years of a 7 year sentence. Due to recent changes to Iran’s penal code, we believe Mehdi can be released if we pressure the Iranian government right now.
Join us in supporting Mehdi and contributing to a freer Iran. Please visit https://www.change.org/p/free-mehdi-khodaei and sign the new petition calling for Mehdi’s release.
