Second Chance for a Siberian Husky

The Issue

My name is Samantha Johnson & I would like to petition putting down the Siberian Husky recently posted on 9&10 News. I am asking this message to be forwarded to Judge Thomas Phillips.

I am an owner of two Siberian Huskies. The breed in itself is not an obedient one. They have a lot of energy, and to some may seem intolerable. They are gorgeous animals and are sometimes adopted solely on being just that. However, I unlike other uneducated adopters, have done a significant amount of research with the breed. Yes, they are incredibly hyper, they naturally love everything - with some exception to smaller animals.

My two huskies tolerate small animals, they do not particularly care for them. With that being said, my husband and I put a 6' tall fence around our entire backyard. This allows them to burn off energy (and boy do they have a lot of it!) as well as keep small animals out. Although to contrary belief huskies are not a loyal dog, they are runners. Unless severely trained they can and will explore for days on end.

Unfortunately, this poor husky was not properly contained. Yes, it attacked and killed chickens, ducks and a smaller dog. With that being said, why do some HUMAN murders get second chances after killing innocent people when animals do not? This basically boils down to improper training & inadequate containment of the dog by a neglectful owner. I find this disheartening that any animal, not just because I am very bias towards the breed, would be put down before they've had the opportunity to be the best obedient dog possible.

This is my request, please give this dog a second chance as you had the Chow. Please reach out to organizations solely targeted for Siberian Husky rescues that can offer proper obedience training. If you are not willing to do so please let me foster the dog until I can get it to one of these rescues, this would give the dog a second chance. I realize this might be difficult, but since the owner won’t appeal this I most defiantly will. I have the appropriate resources needed to take in this animal and the patience for the breed. Please don't let the actions of a neglectful owner depict a life altering decision.

Thank you & God bless,

Samantha G Johnson
