Last night lawyers, board, and administration met to our appeal to the grievance. They voted 5-0 to no change to hair code. I would like to thank the board for their time and consideration. We lost last night, but that is okay we still have the possibility of them reconsidering in Spring, when they go over the handbook for the 2018/2019 school year. The administration lawyer did mention, during their 15 minutes to represent themselves, that even community input they don’t want to the code to change either, and repeated how it was voted 12-0 against change. With all that I have learned these past 7 months, the way they consider “community input” is from those on your child’s Campus Involvement Committee. They decide “community input”. For those in the JISD-- I asked before to those wanting change to write to their principals so they can propose it to the CIC. The school board is NOT “getting” the message that WE WANT CHANGE! WE have to attend board meetings, express our concerns, and as Handbook Review is approaching, we NEED to let them know what we need and want!! So today I humbly ask you to write to the principal, as its not only Habib who is having to deal with this, many other students are. We want equal opportunities for both genders.
