The Issue
"ANIMAL POUNDS" ARE NOT "ANIMAL SHELTERS." DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THIS DECEPTION OF CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
The California (CA) Assembly members are about to vote on a Bill, SB 787, changing words relating to an "animal pound" and "pound master" with "animal shelter." As many of you know, California animal pounds are not providing shelter to animals when the end result is taking them into the back room and pumping them with poisons or shooting them. Animal pounds are not providing shelter when in fact they are merely holding facilities until they kill the animals. We must not allow "kill pounds" to hide their actions under the guise of "animal shelters."
Please contact your CA State Assembly member and the Senators listed below on the CA State Agriculture Committee and ask them to STOP this Legislative Bill, SB 787. Let them know "no changes need to be made to the wording of the Civil Code, Corporations Code, Food and Agricultural Code, Government Code, Health and Safety Code, or Penal Code" relating to animal welfare unless animal kill pounds stop killing animals and begin providing actual shelter for Impounded Animals.
Currently, the changes to CA Codes relating to Impounded Animals are mainly words to make those in animal control feel better about killing our precious State Pets when impounded and in their custody. Changing these words will create even more confusion about what type of care and control our local and statewide facilities provide. Change is needed now but not if it means misinforming the public.

Look what just happened behind our backs! I'm OUTRAGED! They have already won smaller battles but we have to act now before it's TOO LATE!
AB 1553 (http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billCompareClient.xhtml?bill_id=201920200AB1553) already got signed into law by the Governor earlier this month. That Bill contains the same disrespect to California's Shelter Pet. We can not change it now but we can change this SB 787, for the sake of our beloved State Shelter Pet. And, while we are at it, these same Codes need to be updated, clarified and changed to protect our Impounded Animals and hold those working in the pounds accountable for violations of existing laws.
