Still at it!
Jonas Andersson has responded as you might know, saying that during their latest meeting they decided to increase funds to the diagnosis-side of things. He was, however, quite unclear concerning funding for the actual treatments. This, of course, means that we still need to stay strong and keep at it. Currently, the only reasonable way to get Hormone replacement therapy with any security regarding the waiting times is to specifically ask to be sent to Stockholm and have your HRT be managed from there. I waited for more than two years in complete ignorance, checking the mail every day and not knowing when I would
be able to take the first step towards a life that I can accept as my own.
After waiting for so, so long (Including the time from when i tried to get in contact with the doctors that could give me a diagnosis I waited for approximately five years.) I finally decided that I couldn't take it anymore, never knowing when you will be able to at least step on to the road to the life you want to live, so to speak. I contacted the endocrinologists at Sahlgrenska and asked to be sent to Stockholm to get my HRT. After that it took around a month until I got my hormones. This really shows how Västra Götaland has mismanaged their transgender care.
With this in mind I hope that you all will understand why we (ATRA) haven't been very active in the latest months. T-Blockers and high doses of estrogens have a tendency to destabilise one's emotional state a bit and since I am head communicator of ATRA, the information output has been minimal. I really hope that you all still believe in us and our cause!
Never give up!
Amanda, ATRA
