Dear Team Free Sanitary Pads Supporters, 

We welcome recent announcements from Department of Women, Youth & Persons with Disabilities on expanding the budget per supplying Free Sanitary Products for women in poor communities.

This is a step in the right direction in all our collective efforts as well as activism to ensure sanitary products are free for all women and young girls including all menstruators (recognizing persons from the LGBTQ+ community) as we are proud advocates in intersectional feminism thus all our campaigns strive for inclusivity.

The recent announcement to set expenditure allocation for Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management specifically for poor women as well as girls in vulnerable communities, further expands on the South African Government having set aside National Government Expenditure in 2018 for specifically girls in schools. 

Although this is great news as it shows government is listening to our collective calls thus sees the urgency in prioritising women and young girls in efforts to eradicate period poverty. We feel more needs to be done in ensuring proper governance as well as oversight is implemented through enactment of Menstrual Rights into Law - for sustainability as well as protection of the Rights of menstruators to have full access to their basic needs including clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene facilities to manage their period. 

We truly believe that the emancipation of young girls and women (all menstruators) shall soon be a reality, we dream of a South Africa where young girls and women may no longer be hindered by period poverty in their endeavors so to be included in all Socio-economic spheres in our society. 

Lets continue our Menstrual Health Activism by putting more pressure on the South African Government to do more, with regards to legislating Menstrual Health and Hygiene Managent, by spreading this petition far and wide!
