Hello everyone,

Today doctors in Ukraine, Syria, Germany and the USA kicked off our #StopBombingHospitals campaign.

Six years ago today Al Quds hospital was destroyed by intense Russian bombardment. I’ve seen with my own eyes the devastation caused by targeted illegal Russian attacks on healthcare facilities. Over 50 people were killed in the attack, including four of my medical colleagues. Al Quds was the last hospital in besieged eastern Aleppo, but we kept going in a makeshift location for another seven months until we were forcibly displaced in December 2016.

Six years on, Russia is resorting to its same dirty tactics in Ukraine. In the last two months the UN has documented a massive 149 attacks on medical facilities in Ukraine – but the international community is completely failing to hold the perpetrators of these war crimes to account. Today on the anniversary of the brutal attack on Al Quds hospital, please join a global action uniting medical communities and supporters around the world to demand accountability and that attacks on hospitals and other healthcare facilities must end now.

Join them by printing and taking a photo of you, and if possible any medical colleagues, holding our sign declaring STOP BOMBING HOSPITALS. Share it on social media using the hashtag #StopBombingHospitals – alongside your name, location, medical facility if you work at one, and a message of solidarity to medics under attack.

The campaign will continue throughout the next month, and we hope to create vital energy around the need to stop the attacks and achieve accountability for these crimes.

London, UK, medics - TOMORROW (Thurs 28 April) we will be outside St Mary's Hospital at 10am for a demonstration. Please email us here if you are able to join, and we can provide more information.

In 2018 my wife Waad, my daughter Sama and I sought refuge in the UK. We founded the Action For Sama campaign to end the targeting of healthcare facilities in Syria and work towards accountability for the war crimes committed by the Syrian and Russian regimes. In Syria we witnessed countless attempts to destroy the hope of our people and Russia must not be allowed to repeat these crimes over and over again. Please join us today in declaring #StopBombingHospitals and follow Action For Sama for more details on the Al Quds attack and how you can help further.

In solidarity,

Dr. Hamza al-Kateab
