Dear friends, 

I’m writing to share something a little different with you today -- a song by perhaps the only active hip-hop artist among the three million civilians living under siege in Idlib.  

Like so many Syrians, Amir Almuarri is under constant threat from Syrian and Russian bombs and attacks and intimidation from regional extremists. Despite seeing family and friends (including his brother) killed by the conflict, and escaping to Turkey as a refugee, Amir’s heart pulled him back to Idlib, where he now fights for his community using the only weapon he has: his art. 

‘On All Fronts’ is Amir’s latest track and it fearlessly takes aims at all the warring factions that have caused suffering for my family and Syrians all over the country. The video was filmed entirely in Idlib in August and September 2019, and features 62 brave local Syrians, each defying the risk of reprisals from local militias to show solidarity with Amir’s message. You can listen to the song and watch the video here.
