In 2014, Friends of the Headwaters and MCEA filed suit to ensure that Enbridge wouldn't be able to pretend that their usual environmental review was sufficient. In 2015, the MN Court of Appeals ruled unanimously that Enbridge pipelines would require an independent, thorough, and competent Environmental Impact Statement --BEFORE any permits were granted, BEFORE any construction could begin. Friends of the Headwaters is a small, all-volunteer organization made up of concerned citizens. We have no paid staff, no travel budget, no rented office space, no salaried leadership. We don't spend your donated funds on "brand building" or media events, Anything you can donate to Friends of the Headwaters will go to our future procedural and legal initiatives, actions designed to keep oil and tar sands out of the Mississippi Headwaters, away from northern Minnesota's wetlands, drinking water, porous soils, shallow aquifers, clean lakes, and easily contaminated groundwater.
