John Stanton needs to sell the Seattle Mariners
The Issue
In 2022 the Seattle Mariners had built and spent on resources that brought playoff baseball back to the Pacific Northwest in over 20 years. After falling to the Houston Astros in a thrilling ALDS series President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto and the Mariners fan base were told "it's time to spend"
After ownership stated multiple times that they would go out and buy key pieces to bring a world series to Seattle what did fans get? We got AJ Pollock, Tommy La Stella and missed the postseason in 2023 with another promise that we would (again) spend money to bring in key players that would bring a championship to the city of Seattle.
Now as of December 7th 2023 heading into the 2024 MLB season Seattle mariners ownership (more specifically majority owner John Stanton) has once again shafted not only the front office but the fan base with a false promise of spending money on key assets. Instead the front office has had to shed over 20 million dollars in player payroll, saying goodbye to fan favorite names like Eugenio Suarez and Marco Gonzales leaving the front office to scramble together some sort of team that can take Seattle to the postseason yet again.
Majority owner of the Seattle Mariners John Stanton is using an ongoing price issue with Root Sports Network and Xfinity as a scapegoat to yet again not spend money and is preventing his front office team from building a championship caliber team.
Because of Stanton's penny-pinching ways the Seattle mariners have had to pass up on pursuing big name players these past few off seasons and just a friendly reminder if Seattle went out and signed top free agents, Blake Snell, Jorge Soler and Cody Bellinger right now at their projected earnings, Seattle would still be under the luxury tax threshold, still be out of the top 5 in MLB payroll and the revenue brought in because of these signings would easily make up for any money lost during the fallout of the Root Sports Network.
John Stanton does not realize you must invest in your business to make a product fans and consumers want to go out and see he is instead cutting corners at seasons end each year so he can stash a few more million dollars in his wallet. He does not care about the players, fans, coaching staff or front office he only cares about maximizing profits while minimizing the cost.
People, we have already seen teams like the Oakland Athletics crumble because of cheap ownership that refuse to spend money on their teams. Please don't let this happen to the Seattle Mariners and let your voice be heard that we need a change in ownership that is willing to invest the money to build a team that will bring a championship to Seattle!
