End the inhumane treatment of an elderly couple.

The Issue

My very elderly grandparents are being separated by South Tyneside Social Services after 70 yrs together.

My grandfather (Ray) is 95 yrs old, suffers from Alzheimer's, and has recently been admitted to full time care. My grandmother (Jessie) is 88 and physically infirm - she can't move with out assistance (including toilet visits) and has a number of ongoing physical ailments including severe polymyalgia and leg ulcers.

My grandmother is currently in hospital and social services have decided that she is fit to go home - home alone, with carers visiting for 15 mins at a time 4 times a day. The care home my grandfather is in has a space for my grandmother too but social services won't allow her to be admitted as she doesn't fit their criteria.

My grandfather sits and waits for her everyday - confused, anxious and lonely without the woman who has been by his side for 70 yrs.

My grandmother misses her husband terribly and still wants to do what she can to care for him - even if its just sitting by his side holding his hand.

This treatment is inhumane and cruel.

We would like your help to make it stop.
