The New York State Parks and Recreation and Department of Transportation is paving a 4.5 mile stretch of the Old Erie Canal between DeWitt (Butternut Entrance) and Green Lakes State Park. There was no public discussion or communication of this project until after it started.  Because softer surfaces are easier on the bodies of all those who use the canal trail, we want this project stopped and the canal trail restored to crushed stone and earth.
