Support Grants for Social Work to Drive Positive Change Globally
The Issue
#putonyourmask
Since the 1800’s, professional social workers have been champions of the vulnerable, oppressed and those living in poverty. We empower the hopeless and fight discrimination. We rally organizations, communities and entire social institutions to address some of society’s greatest problems.
So who fights for us?
The National Association of Social Workers states that one of its primary goals is to strengthen and unify the profession and we need your help.
If you care about social issues, are passionate about helping those in need and driving positive change this is your chance to have an impact.
The Social work reinvestment act could provide tens of millions of dollars to support the profession of social work through grants for research, education, outreach, industry enhancements and the development of a national coordinating center.
This relatively minor cost to the budget would be a tremendous enhancement to the entire field of social work and help us to have a positive impact in the lives of countless of our most vulnerable citizens for generations to come …and it has stalled in congress!
Whenever there is a crisis those in a position to help are told to secure themselves first before forging ahead to help others. This ensures they will stay safe and capable while doing the most good for the most people in need. Weather with life jackets, safety harnesses or in the case of an airplane we are told “be sure to put on your mask before assisting others with their mask”
Lend your voice to this petition and our signatures will go directly to the chair and vice chair of the committee this bill is waiting in. Let them know we are ready and committed to forging real change and we want the support to do it.
If you want to see a core helping profession rise up. If you are a social worker or know someone who is struggling- tell them it’s time for us to “put on our mask” and invest in the profession.
It’s time to gear up- we’ve got work to do!
