So, with every change in technology you have, especially when something becomes simpler, it opens up routes into Cyber Crime.

This is another consideration we need to be tagged onto the PSTN switch off, as right now listening into phone calls while possible, really isn't profitable for the amount of effort and time involved. For both residential and business consumers, I would have to go to a lot of effort to achieve this.

However, from 2020 as everyone starts moving to VoIP, this becomes easier. The most frustrating thing about this is it is not easier because the technology is weak or non-secure, in fact a VoIP communication is secure, but not when you essentially provide a front end service, especially for a small business, that allows me to reconfigure your extensions when I hack your account via the conventional and simple cyber crime methods in place today. There is even a handy "Wire Tapping" feature on most VoIP service called "Call Listen", so I really don't need to put much effort into this.

Now, we don't hear much of this to date, as right now on the varied technology this is quite difficult to achieve, but shifting everyone over to an absolute i.e. everyone has VoIP, well that just makes the endeavour profitable to the criminal enterprise.
