This is a graphic that gets me everytime - 80% of donor requests to be met would be amazing! I keep being struck by the numbers of people I hear about who are looking for donors....
There's Elspeth Roberts in Morecambe (http://www.lancasterguardian.co.uk/news/morecambe-woman-appeals-for-donor-who-could-save-her-life-1-8429517). Or young Australian Mum, Tania Murphy (@findtanadonor) or 7-year-old Kacper from Nuneaton (#helpforkacper) or 21-year-old Call-of-Duty Omar from London (#mybroneedsadonor). So many people and campaigns that I'd never really been aware of before this happened to Ruby.
The NHS website has stories about how cord donation has helped people at: http://www.nhsbt.nhs.uk/cordblood/amazingstories/. This gives us so much hope.
As you know, we're doing this for our friend Ruby - wife, mother to two very young children and friend - who desperately needs a stem cell donation as soon as possible. This petition is going to take time to have an effect. But there are ways you can help Ruby right now:
1. Most importantly, Register for Ruby! If you are between 18-55 and in relatively good health then you can register online really easily at www.dkms.org.uk. Watch the video above to see how easy it is.
2. Share for Ruby. Tell your friends and family how much we need people to register and how easy it is. Share the video from www.registerforruby.com. Share this petition. Share the FB group - just keep people talking about the need to expand the stem cell/bone marrow register.
We are sending Ruby's story to various news outlets and Facebook pages etc. But we'd always love help/ contacts to reach out to in order to help raise more and more awareness!
3. Volunteer for Ruby - we are running recruitment drives in as many places as we can but for that we need people! Or you might know a place where you'd like to organise a drive. You can get in touch on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/107903666394376/.
4. Donate for Ruby - we hate to ask for money but, in order to both expand our campaign to register as many people as possible and to support Ruby and her family during this horrible time, we have to ask you to consider this http://justgiving.com/crowdfunding/team-ruby.
At the moment, Ruby has received good news about her last round of chemotherapy (in that it went really well) but she still has to go in for another punishing round of chemotherapy and she (like those I've listed above and so many others) still really needs that stem cell donation.
