As South Yorkshire Police deem tree protectors worthy of up to 33 officers monitoring their movements and stand back as more tree protectors are assaulted by Amey's hired thugs, Heeley Constituency Labour Party become the first Labour CLP to condemn the tree killings. A BREAKTHROUGH LAST NIGHT IN HEELEY --- From NO STUMP CITY (no.stump.city@gmail.com), 23 Feb. The Heeley Labour Party last night became the first Labour Party constituency in Sheffield to dissent from the Lodge-Dore line on trees and PFIs. By a healthy majority, the Heeley Labour Party endorsed a recent motion passed by one of its branches that called for “an immediate, mediated settlement to the felling of our street trees." The vote on the Gleadless Valley Labour Party motion* was: 37 for; 14 against; 5 abstentions. MPs, such as Heeley MP Louise Haigh, do not vote at CLP meets. Two other pro-tree and anti-PFI motions passed by other Labour Party branches in February have not yet come to their respective constituency Labour Parties for debate and a vote. Broomhill and Sharrow Vale Labour Party (in the Central CLP) and Fulwood Labour Party (in the Hallam CLP) have both passed very similar resolutions to the one coming out of GVLP; the Broomhill motion is identical. In theory, both branch resolutions should be forwarded to their respective constituency Labour Party meetings. However, the brass who run local constituency Labour Parties have a tendency to make sure that resolutions they do not like somehow "get lost" in the process of being forwarded from local branches to the CLP. Last evening, NO STUMP CITY was picketing and leafleting outside the Central CLP meeting. On his way into the meeting, Central MP Paul Blomfield was asked whether he opposed the upcoming felling of the 23 World War I memorial trees on Western Road in Crookes. His reply? “Well, it is not in my constituency." (Western Road is located a few hundred metres from Crooksmoor Road on the edge of Blomfield’s Central constituency.)
