Maxine Peake, one of the UK’s leading actors, has today become the fourth endorser of the ‘DEFEND THE TREE DEFENDERS: STUMP UP’ campaign. (Previous endorsers in the past week: Green Party co-leader Caroline Lucas, film maker Ken Loach, and Guardian columnist George Monbiot.)
The campaign, which launches on the upcoming weekend, aims to raise £27,000 in legal costs that SCC is trying to gouge out of the hides of our fellow tree campaigners, Calvin Payne and Alastair Wright.
Peake, who is from Manchester, has campaigned side-by-side with Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn and is a committed environmentalist: along with Jeremy Irons, she featured in a 2016 film about the necessity of challenging climate change. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxine_Peake )
The ‘Stump up Sheffield’ campaign team now has 15 members. Tomorrow we film our Crowdfunder video and wrap up a few last-minute details. We could use a few more people, however, to assist us in posting the campaign message in National Facebook groups; we can tell you the FB groups to join.
