Epidural fibrosis is scar tissue surrounding spinal nerve roots following spinal surgery. Scar tends to shrink as it ages, going from a pink supple scar to a shrunken dried white firm scar. The problem is that this scar encircles nerve roots and squeezes them as it shrinks. It is also known as Failed Spine Surgery Syndrome or Adhesive Arachnoiditis. The condition emerges as one of progressive nerve pain years after a spinal surgery. Repeat spinal surgeries often worsen the condition. The pain is resistant to most treatments. Low dose opioids are often necessary in conjunction with epidural injections. Without these treatments, these patients are often non-functional and relegated to the bed or easy chair. Bill 1998 would spell disaster for those with Epidural Fibrosis. PAINED LIVES MATTER.
