CRPS goes by many names. RSD, reflex dystrophy, sudeck's atrophy, shoulder-hand syndrome, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. It can occur following stroke, limb surgery, hand or foot injury or even for no apparent reason. The limb swells, turns color, becomes cold or hot, and normal sensation is altered to that even light touch feels like a blow torch. A high percentage of these patients commit suicide.
