Jeffersonville Siren Expansion

The Issue

Many of our town's people admitted that they couldn't hear the sirens during our last tornado drill, Especially On the Outskirts of town.

This observation raises a serious concern about the current reach of our warning system. Individuals may not be warned of any incoming danger in the face of natural or man-made disasters such as tornadoes, fires, or Terrorist Threat.

Currently, Jeffersonville has two tornado sirens in place(One next To Wendys on Carr Rd. - and A Second next to the Volunteer Fire Department). However, these seem insufficient to serve the farthest edge of town adequately. The dilemma is, most notably near the apartment complex, making it a matter of public safety. I firmly believe that the installation of a third siren in this location will provide the necessary sound coverage, instantly alerting the surrounding residents of danger.

Fact : The Siren at the Fire house is a federal signal Eclipse 8 and depending on condition has a maximum sound output of 115db at 100ft and can carry sound an estimated 1,840 feet, although some same 1/2 mile. The Farthest Corner of DarbyShire Dr. In Jeffersonville is 1 mile from the siren putting out just outside of its range. Meaning they have little to no coverage on that end of town.

Fact : not alot of people know but tornado sirens are to alert people who are outdoors in immediate danger.

Fun Fact : In 1799, Scottish physicist John Robinson invented the first siren.
