Justice for Moose
Dec 8, 2015
Mikah Johnson appeared in court on Dec. 4, was booked into jail, then released on $25,000 bail. As a condition of bail he is not allowed any contact with any animals or children, not even family. His next court hearing is on Feb. 18 at the Matheson Court House, 450 S. State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. It will be a preliminary hearing where witnesses will testify and Judge Katie Bernards-Goodman will decide if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial. Many of the questions people have about the case will be answered at the preliminary hearing, such as why the abuse went unreported for so long and only after Moose was beaten to death. You can submit letters to add to the case file by emailing a pdf of the letter to melodys@utcourts.gov with case number 151912221 in the subject line. Deseret News published a news article on Dec. 7 about the hearing: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865643188/Hearing-set-for-Salt-Lake-man-accused-of-torturing-dog-to-death.html The biggest thing you can do for now to help get Justice for Moose is submit a letter to the court asking that Johnson not be offered any plea bargain and if found guilty be sentenced to the maximum of 15 years in prison. In addition please share this petition far and wide. This petition will be used during sentencing so the more signatures the better!
