We're now 200,000 strong and every news outlet in the nation is buzzing, but Amazon scoffs at all of you. It's just slacktivism. It's "Twitter Diplomacy." Hashtag campaigns like #BringBackOurGirls and viral videos like Kony 2012 failed to bring change because they were too ambitious in calling for sweeping reforms and didn't provide actionable things that people, legislators and corporations can do right now. It's really frustrating to hear, but the simple truth is that incremental changes, through small but firm acts of courage and sacrifice, are what's needed to make historical changes. We won't make the same mistake. On Thursday, we'll join the celebrity calls to boycott Amazon and avoid all shopping, viewing Prime Video and using their apps (although most of us have been doing that already). On Friday at noon EST, we'll cancel our Amazon Prime accounts, delete all Amazon apps and effectively end all connection to the company. Jeff Bezos and Amazon's executives are too busy cashing their checks to care about a protest until they see a meaningful hit to the company's bottom-line. We wish this confrontation could end so we could all move on to one of the billion other things that need fixing in this country's schools, legal system, elections and healthcare. So let's look at this as the first commitment of many. In this fractured and divisive time, we will invite free speech, recognize that the NRA is not representative of the millions of responsible gun owners in the U.S., invite gun owners to the conversation, and not lose focus by adding other demands.
