We must stop buying Russian gas, coal and oil now. We cannot keep financing Putin’s War.

Since the Russian army invaded Ukraine, EU member states have sent more than 125 billion euros to Putin in exchange for gas, oil and coal. This figure is growing every day: https://beyond-coal.eu/russian-fossil-fuel-tracker/

We European citizens know that stopping Russian gas, oil and coal imports will have economic consequences, but we do not want to look the other way while Putin murders thousands of innocent people in Ukraine. We do not want to do business with a war criminal.

We European citizens want to help the Ukrainian people, and we believe that the best way to do that is to cut off the money flow to Putin's government.

That is why we call on the 27 Heads of State and Government of the European Union to stop imports of Russian gas, oil and coal until the Russian military stops attacking Ukraine.

Can the EU thrive without Russian fossil fuels? A team of 9 top economists have crunched the numbers and they find the cost would be tolerable. For Germany, among the most reliant on Russian gas, the cost would be between 0.2% and 3% of GDP. https://www.econtribute.de/RePEc/ajk/ajkpbs/ECONtribute_PB_028_2022.pdf

Nobel prize winning economist Paul Krugman finds the analysis realistic. He explains it here in The New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/15/opinion/germany-russia-ukraine-gas.html

The shortest and least painful way to end the war is to cut Putin’s profits from oil, gas and coal. Let's do it now.
