‛Neither Spain nor Europe stop Catalonia in its course': Catalan Chamber of Commerce decides to recognise and support the Catalan Council led by President Carles Puigdemont
On 29 June 2022, the Catalan Chamber of Commerce (Cambra de Comerç de Barcelona) decided in its plenary session, after extensive discussion, to officially recognise and support the Consell per la República (Catalan Council) — the Catalan government-in-exile led by President Carles Puigdemont — and its Assemblea de Representants per la República (the Catalan parliament-in-exile). Among other things, the statement literally reads:
— «The Barcelona Chamber of Commerce today expresses its well-deserved appreciation to the Council of the Republic, headed by the very honourable President Puigdemont, for its valuable work in achieving this objective, which is as necessary as it is urgent for the productive fabric of our country, and to the Assembly of Representatives, recently constituted in Northern Catalonia, as a legitimate representative body.»
— «We affirm definitively that the best economic policy is to rely on a state of our own.»
The Chamber of Commerce also decided to reduce the weight of the votes of the big companies and to remove the symbol of the Spanish crown from its coat of arms.
