The UN Independent Expert on the Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order (appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council), Alfred-Maurice de Zayas, said in an interview in Spanish that the German state would not have the right to decide an extradition of the 130th President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, to Spain. He says that Spain is pursuing the President of the Generalitat of Catalonia for political reasons. Therefore, Germany would violate the Geneva Convention on Refugees in case of extradition of the Catalan president to Spain. The UN Independent Expert on the Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order also criticizes very much the silence of the European Union that is currently losing its moral credibility everywhere, due to its silence on the multiple and massive violations of Human Rights in Catalonia, committed by the Spanish State. He also says that the European Union ignores that Spain constantly violates Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union.
