The 130th President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Carles Puigdemont, who was elected in democratic elections and unlawfully prosecuted by Spain, was arrested by the German police following a European arrest warrant issued by the Spanish authorities when he crossed the German border from Denmark by car. Already before, a Catalan president, who had been exiled by Spain, was arrested by Germans: the then president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Lluís Companys i Jover, was arrested in August 1940 by the Gestapo near Nantes and the murderous regime of injustice delivered by General Francisco Franco. In Spain, he was tortured, sentenced to death by a "fast food court" in a one-day trial and murdered on 15 October 1940 by a firing squad of the Spanish state. A spokesman for the Spanish governing party, Pablo Casado, announced in October 2017 that Carles Puigdemont would suffer the same fate as Lluís Companys i Jover. Although there is no official death penalty in Spain, informed observers are likely to believe that Carles Puigdemont, if he would be taken to a Spanish prison on any pretext, would in all likelihood no longer leave the Spanish country alive. Now the German justice is required to learn from the German past and to examine the circumstances of this case exactly! Anyone who, like Carles Puigdemont as an innocent citizen, is persecuted and defamed by a state by all means in order to ruin his bourgeois existence and put him out of circulation forever ,although he only acted peacefully as a politician in the context of his own human rights and the human rights of the Catalan nation, can not be handed over to a judiciary that has long since proven to be arbitrary ‘injustice justice’ in a state without a functioning separation of powers The asylum right for politically persecuted persons is a fundamental right in Germany, which is guaranteed by the Basic Law. Who if not Carles Puigdemont would be entitled to political asylum in Germany! Whoever stands for democracy, the rule of law and human rights in Germany can not hesitate these days to stand up for the freedom of the Catalan exile president! Let us show the world that we have learned from the mistakes of National Socialism, and let us not repeat what we once did to the Catalans under Hitler!
