The 130th President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Carles Puigdemont, who was elected in democratic elections and unlawfully prosecuted by Spain, was arrested by the German police following a European arrest warrant issued by the Spanish authorities when he crossed the German border from Denmark by car. A spokesman for the Spanish governing party, Pablo Casado, announced in October 2017 that Carles Puigdemont would suffer the same fate as Lluís Companys i Jover.
