On 23 March 2018, Spanish judge Pablo Llarena sent the current Catalonia’s presidential candidate, Jordi Turull i Negre, three democratically elected Catalan ministers unlawfully seized by Spain at the end of October 2017, Dolors Bassa, Raül Romeva and Josep Rull, and former Catalan Parliament President Carme Forcadell, to jail — without good legal grounds! It was obviously a political decision, wanted by the Spanish governing party Partido Popular. This is only a small part of a macro process that the demophobic Spanish government and the apparently non-independent Spanish judiciary are now leading to more than 900 prominent Catalans with the goal of intimidation and political elimination. The almost barbaric way of defaming Catalan politicians for no apparent reason and sending them to jail is a shame for Spain and all Spaniards. Post-democratic Spain violates the fundamental values of the European Union and is constantly violating human rights. It seems as if Spain has declared war on Catalonia. Judges such as Pablo Llarena have a considerable share of the blame that the political separation of Catalonia and Spain is now only a matter of time. More and more people in Catalonia realize that for them a future in dignity and freedom within the Spanish state would not be possible and that there is now no realistic alternative to the construction of the Catalan Republic.
