Ft Washington community schools-NO CHANGE NOW

The Issue

The CEO of Prince George's County Public Schools, Dr. Kevin Maxwell, has proposed to change the school boundaries for children attending Fort Washington Forest Elementary and Potomac Landing Elementary.  These students will be impacted by the boundary changes as they will no longer be allowed to attend their community middle school, Accokeek Academy.  The CEO's proposal will shift the elementary school students to Gwynn Park Middle School, followed by Gwynn Park High School, beginning School Year 2016. In addition, the residents of The Preserve neighborhood in Accokeek, MD will be shifted to Fort Washington Forest Elementary and no longer able to attend Accokeek Academy for elementary or middle school. The people impacted by this change will be EVERYONE in the Fort Washington community as well as The Preserve neighborhood in Accokeek, MD.  Students will be on the bus for long periods of time and sent to a school outside of their community.  Homeowners, even those without children in school, will be negatively impacted as their home values will decrease.  With the proposed middle school and high school changes, we will not be able to attend the schools located within our own community. Please join us in opposing these changes.  Spread the word....a community hearing is being held February 23, 2016 at the Board of Education, 14201 School Ln, Upper Marlboro, MD.  The hearing begins at 7 pm.  Please come and speak out to oppose the change.  The Board of Education is voting on this proposal on February 25, 2016. Thank you for your support.
