Stop West Virginia From Creating A Black Market For Animal Parts With New Bill

The Issue

West Virginia House Bill 2521, opens the market for hunters and trappers allowing them to sell animal parts, which include Penis bone (baculum), urine, glands, carcasses, and fur.

Increasing the market for buying, selling, and trading animal parts, will harm wildlife populations, as well as, promote poaching. Turning animals and their body parts into products lays the groundwork for underground networks and crime syndicates similar to the illegal trade of rhino horn and elephant tusks.

Profits made through the buying and selling of animal parts is largely responsible for the decline in global wildlife populations and the epidemic of poaching worldwide. This bill does not solve any problems. It creates more.
