Nevada for Open Primaries

Nevada for Open Primaries
The Issue
Nevada has one of the lowest voter turnouts in the country. The media and locals claim it is a lack of responsibility to the constitution and our freedom to vote.
This is not the case at all. In Nevada, you cannot vote outside your party. If you dont have a candidate running under your label, you cant participate. This isnt just presidential caucuses, but also local offices.
According to the Nevada State Secretaries office more than half the state is registered independent or nonpartisan. By May 2019 there were almost 80,000 independent voters and almost 500,000 non partisan voters. Before these stats it was well documented that Nevada was over 70% registered to those 2 parties. More than Republicans and Democrats combined.
A bill was previously introduced by James Settlemeyer and quickly shot down without debate. That was right before the 2016 election where half the state didnt vote. In the 2018 midterms, Nevada was once again at the bottom on voter turnout. If you look at the stats and know the voting laws you can see why the last elections had such low turnout.
We are not represented. We do not get to choose who represents us and it is completely unamerican to hold half your population hostage from voting.
I want to be able to vote for whoever fits my ideals and morals, not based on what side they are on. This is why so many are registering for independent and nonpartisan.
So please sign and help James Settlemeyer get his bill through this time. I saw him at a parade last week and he said "I'm for open primaries, nobody else seemed to be"
