A short discussion with James Cartlidge, MP

Here is the 1996 plan for the bypass (larger image: https://goo.gl/KWwtMy)
Yesterday I bumped into our MP, James Cartlidge, on Market Hill.
He said he was promoting the western bypass as it was the only choice available. If people did not want it he would be happy to accept their choice.
He had had many impractical suggestions such as HGVs should be routed through Great Horkesley. I can understand his frustration.
This project had been going on for 40 years [because it is far from ideal?]. It was time to do so something. I agreed.
The alternative was to do nothing. I disagreed. We should find a way to remove 100% of the HGVs from the town centre and service the needs of "Greater Sudbury". He said there was no such solution. Our challenge is to show there is one. Then we will have to persuade our MP and everyone else to support it.
The next update here will be about the growth plans for Chilton and Middleton. They offer an opportunity to resolve this conundrum.
PS My first question had been about the data underlying the business case. James said five others had already asked him about that yesterday morning. I have written to Suffolk County Council as he suggested.
