Tell Burton Snowboards to stop objectifying women to "inspire" their riders and build their brand!
The Issue
Tell Burton we're not buying it!!
Burton Snowboards and Jake Burton announced a LA launch party today (Nov 18, 2015) to showcase a new line of boards with their partnership with Playboy. While they have created a brand that was focused for both men and women and their strong belief in social responsibility they also continue to launch boards that objectify women under the guise of art. We're not buying it!!!
I did buy into this brand. I believed they cared about empowering women through snowboarding. My boots, bindings, board, gear year after year are from Burton. I have given my niece and nephews Burton branded clothes and told them about what they do. I have been duped. At a time when even beer companies are announcing their move away from using sex and women to sell their products, Burton strongly stands by their boards with naked women on them.
As a woman, avid boarder, athlete and mother - I am appalled and saddened that this family friendly sport and mountain experience which is largely monopolized by the Burton brand has been turned into a teenage wet dream to entice more youth and men to buy their boards. They claim their "art" inspires their riders. Yet the comments I have already seen about these boards are..."can't wait to RIDE her" and "I bet she does great tricks." Is this culture what we want our youth to buy into?
While I am sure they will find 1,000 buyers to grab this limited edition line - let's let Burton hear our voices that we're not buying it! And sign this petition to request they no longer objectify women on their snowboards and call it art.
