• Have you ever lost a pet as a result of road traffic. incident.  Or seen an animal that has been hit, hurt and watched it be left and still showing signs of life.

I have.  I have lifted birds, rabbits, cats from roads and taken them to vets to do their best.  I do this because somebody else didn't care enough to stop.

I do this because I care about the welfare of animals/wildlife on our roads.

Living beings left to suffer after being hit by motor vehicles.  When all the driver needs to do is stop and check the animal they've have sadly hit.

Yes, it isn't always possible to avoid a cat flying out in front of you.  However, it is always possible to stop when it is safe to do so, go back and check the victim.  Then take them to a vet and give them some dignity, whether it be a wild rabbit, hedgehog or a much loved cat.  At least if there is anything that can be done for the animal to avoid further suffering then we have done the right thing.

If the animal in question could possibly have an owner, then they can be contacted and given closure.  Imagine if it was your own pet and nobody stopped to help them and nobody let you know their sad fate.

Bringing in a law to make people stop and help all animals whether it is an accident or not will hopefully make drivers more considerate, aware and make them slow down.  This will also make roads safer for human beings too.
