Request for Montgomery County to continue to provide Resource Coordination Services!

The Issue

Re:  Montgomery County Resource Coordination

Dear Mr. Leggett:

Thank you for your leadership on issues important to people with developmental disabilities.  We appreciate the county’s work and keen attention to the resource coordination issue. We believe there is a positive solution to the challenges that we have faced since the implementation of targeted case management by the state in July of 2013.

We are requesting:

1. That the County continues to provide resource coordination as one of the five providers licensed as a choice for this service by the state for up to 1,100 people in all eligibility categories.

2. That the County provides for a slow, steady and organized transfer of the remaining disabled persons eligible for this service to private providers.

3. That the County hires merit employees to ensure that resource coordination for the 1,100 specified in the county’s January 2013 application be adequately served.

4.That the County develops a work group led by the Commission on People with Disabilities to monitor the process.

We are aware that the County already acts as case manager and provider to other populations, and insist that our children are just as deserving of the County’s efforts.  For the County to abandon its role as a resource coordination provider after decades of successful service provision is not an acceptable outcome.
