Greyhound who tested positive for Clenbuterol was killed 1 week later after suffering injury

A greyhound who tested positive for Clenbuterol was killed by a vet a week later after suffering a fractured hock in a race.

A Greyhound Racing Control Committee report (March 2026), shows that the prohibited substance was detected in a urine sample taken from greyhound Whats Up Doc at Limerick stadium on 19 July 2025. On the day, the greyhound finished second last in a race. 

At Limerick stadium a week later (26 July), 3-year-old Whats Up Doc was "euthanised" by a vet after suffering a fractured right hock.

Greyhound Racing Ireland withheld footage of that race and deleted the owner's name (O-L-Syndicate) from the greyhound's profile page.

Trainer Padraig O’Lone of 13 Kennedy Park, Roscrea, County Tipperary was in attendance at a meeting of the Greyhound Racing Control Committee. The committee “heard evidence in relation to the laboratory analysis and about the substance itself and the effect it would have on the greyhound.”

The committee said it “noted the evidence given by Padraig O’Lone that it was his belief that the substance came through the food chain as he feeds his greyhounds Category 2 meat as he holds a meat feeders licence and that he did not deliberately give the greyhound clenbuterol”.

After having "considered all the evidence and taking all the circumstances into account", the committee "imposed a sanction payment of €500 on Padraig O’Lone and awarded costs of €250 in favour of Rásaíocht Con Éireann."

Between July 2024 and his killing in July 2025, Whats Up Doc was used in 18 races at Limerick stadium and 1 race at Newbridge.

Greyhounds trained by Padraig O’Lone have been entered into 304 races (including 32 this year), with 64 race winners.
