Join us in urging Limerick City and County Council to STOP PROMOTING GREYHOUND RACING.

On its Limerick.ie website, the council is currently encouraging people of "all ages" to support the dog-killing gambling activity.

On a “what’s on” section of the site, they state: "grab your friends, family or co-workers and enjoy a night to remember at the dogs at Limerick Greyhound Stadium." https://www.limerick.ie/tags/greyhound-racing/events

Those who follow the council's suggestion and go to the track may witness dogs suffering painful injuries and crying out in pain.

Limerick Stadium is one of the worst tracks in Ireland for greyhound injuries and deaths. At least 396 greyhounds suffered injuries there and 143 were killed over the past 11 years alone, sickening Greyhound Racing Ireland statistics show. Among the past victims were a greyhound who “collapsed and died after race” (a post mortem “indicated cardiac arrest”) and a greyhound who died at the end of a race with a “suspected heart attack”.

In the first four months of 2025, there were 11 injuries and 7 deaths at Limerick Stadium. 

At races around Ireland in the past eleven years, at least 3,696 greyhounds suffered injuries and 1,396 were killed. Thousands more are killed behind the scenes every year because they are not fast enough to win.

One of the stated aims of the Limerick.ie website is to “project a positive image of Limerick”. Publicising and promoting an activity that causes so much suffering and death certainly does not project a positive image. It reflects badly on the council that it considers it appropriate to encourage people to support greyhound racing.

Contact Limerick City and County Council today and appeal to them to remove greyhound racing from the Limerick.ie website.
