32 greyhounds suffered injuries in races at Shelbourne Park track in 2024 and 10 of them were killed by a track vet.
The 10 greyhounds killed by the vet had suffered fractured/injured hock (6), fractured leg (1), broken elbow and radius (1), fractured elbow (1) and fractured radius & ulna (1).
The remaining 22 injured greyhounds were “treated by vet” for fractured hock (9), cut leg, fractured elbow joint, fractured wrist, injured hock and wrist, injured ligaments in hock, lame right fore elbow area, pelvic injury, scapula fracture, superficial wound on pad, suspected fractured metatarsal, tendon injury near wrist, wound on right hind leg and wrist injury.
There was even more suffering and death at trials held at Shelbourne Park in 2024. On 1 June, a greyhound suffered a hock injury and was "treated at owner's vet". On 21 June, a greyhound suffered a hock injury and was "euthanised by track vet". On 6 September, two greyhounds suffered leg/hock injuries and both were "euthanised by track vet".
Sickening Greyhound Racing Ireland statistics show that since 2015 alone, at least 339 greyhounds have suffered injuries in races at Shelbourne Park stadium and 99 were killed.
At races around Ireland in the past eleven years, 3, 696 greyhounds suffered injuries and 1, 396 were killed. The Greyhound Racing Ireland figures are based on “reported” injuries and deaths, suggesting that the actual number could be even higher. They do not include the greyhounds injured at tracks and later killed elsewhere, or the thousands of greyhounds who are killed every year because they are not fast enough to win races.

ACTION ALERT
Don’t go greyhound racing. Since 2001, Greyhound Racing Ireland has received €366, 986, 146 in state funding, including €18.2 million for 2023, €19 million for 2024 and €19.82 million for 2025. This is unacceptable and must be stopped. Tell the leaders of Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Sinn Fein to stop supporting the funding and back a ban on this dog-killing gambling activity.
