59 greyhounds suffered injuries in races at Mullingar track in 2024 and 24 of them were killed.
23 of the greyhounds who lost their lives were "euthanised by track vet", plus there was an additional "racing fatality" death - “collapsed and died” (acute heart failure).
It was the highest number of deaths at Mullingar track since records began.
The 23 greyhounds killed by the vet had suffered broken/fractured hock (8), broken/fractured wrist (5), fractured humerus (2), fractured radius & ulna (2), broke neck (1), spinal injury (1), compound fracture front leg (1), dislocated left hock (1), fractured right hock and tendon (1) and tore gracilis (1).
The remaining 35 injured greyhounds were “treated by vet”. Their injuries were broken/fractured hock (15), broken toes (1), fractured left humurus (1), fractured left tibia (1), fractured/injured wrist (11), left triceps rupture (1), ruptured/torn gracilis (3) and torn Achilles tendon (2).
Mullingar was the worst track in the country in 2024 for greyhound injuries (resulting in death or treatment), followed by Tralee (42), Shelbourne Park (32), etc
Mullingar was the second worst track for greyhound deaths (24), behind Youghal track which recorded 26 deaths.
Sickening Greyhound Racing Ireland statistics show that since 2015 alone, at least 393 greyhounds have suffered injuries in races at Mullingar stadium and 132 were killed.
At races around Ireland in the past eleven years, 3, 696 greyhounds suffered injuries and 1, 396 were killed. The Greyhound Racing Ireland figures are based on “reported” injuries and deaths, suggesting that the actual number could be even higher. They do not include the greyhounds injured at tracks and later killed elsewhere, or the thousands of greyhounds who are killed every year because they are not fast enough to win races.

ACTION ALERT
Don’t go greyhound racing. Since 2001, Greyhound Racing Ireland has received €366, 986, 146 in state funding, including €18.2 million for 2023, €19 million for 2024 and €19.82 million for 2025. This is unacceptable and must be stopped. Tell the leaders of Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Sinn Fein to stop supporting the funding and back a ban on this dog-killing gambling activity.
