A big THANK YOU to Galway Tourism for following the example of Failte Ireland and removing greyhound racing from its website.

A page on the Galway Tourism site had recommended a visit to Galway greyhound stadium but following an ICABS appeal, the content has now been deleted.

Many dogs have suffered and died at Galway stadium. In the past six years alone, 145 greyhounds were injured there and 38 were destroyed by a track vet. Many more are also killed because they don’t make the grade. As revealed in RTE’s award-winning "Greyhounds running for their lives" documentary, around 6,000 greyhounds are killed every year simply because they are not fast enough to win. The programme included horrifying scenes of greyhounds being delivered to a knackery where they were shot in the head and dumped into a skip. Galway Tourism is the latest in a growing list of those who have rejected greyhound racing, including Air France (which removed Irish greyhound racing from 44 of its international websites), Toyota Ireland, Opel Ireland, Heineken Ireland/Murphy's, Dublin Bus, Eir Sport, Tesco Ireland, Electric Ireland, Applegreen, Barry's Tea, Hyde Irish Whiskey, Galway Crystal, FBD Insurance, Botanica International, Voucher Cloud, Permanent TSB, Maldron Hotels, Clayton Hotels, North Star Hotel Dublin, Metropole Hotel Cork, Treacy's Hotel Waterford, Trip Indicator, In Your Pocket City Guides, Food For Thought (the official publication of the Restaurants Association of Ireland), Hertz, etc.
