A photo has emerged showing two of the Irish greyhounds shamefully exported to China - a country with no animal welfare laws where greyhounds are beaten, boiled alive and sold at meat markets.
The image, posted on Facebook by Kerry Lawrence of Birmingham Greyhound Protection, shows white and black greyhound Shaneboy Jasper alongside black greyhound, Pay Freeze. The latter appears to have a tight band wrapped around his muzzle. https://www.facebook.com/kerry.elliman/posts/10220604097604918
“Absolutely heartbreaking,” is how Kerry describes the scene. “Shaneboy Jasper and Pay Freeze - both Irish beautiful greyhounds being used as stud in China. The only life these dogs will have will be being used as breeding machines over and over again. Don’t let anyone try and tell you that greyhound racing is about the dogs because it isn’t - it’s all about greed. These poor lads will never be pets, they will just be used as machines.”
She condemned the Irish Greyhound Board and Greyhound Board of Great Britain for failing to stop the exports to China.
Greyhound campaign group, Caged Nationwide, previously reported that Shaneboy Jasper "was exported to the Chinese breeding kennels in Zhangwu County in November 2018”. They reported that Pay Freeze was exported to the UK, and later sold back to Ireland before “his new owner decided to send this champ to mainland China, specifically the city of Zhuozhou in the Hebei province”.
According to the Irish Greyhound Board website, Shaneboy Jasper was raced at Shelbourne Park and Newbridge tracks between June and August 2018, with €1,790 in prize-money.
Pay Freeze, meanwhile, was born in June 2011 and raced at Mullingar, Longford and Shelbourne Park tracks as well as at five tracks in the UK before ending up in China. His last race in Ireland was in April 2013 at Longford stadium.
The Irish Government is once again being urged to take immediate action to stop the direct or indirect export of dogs to China. There are no animal welfare laws in China, fuelling fears that Irish dogs face horrendous fates after they are used for racing and breeding. Previous videos from China have shown a greyhound being boiled alive in a barrel and an individual slamming a greyhound into the ground after the dog failed to win races.

STOP THE STATE FUNDING FOR GREYHOUND RACING
Another €16.8 million of scarce public funds has been approved for greyhound racing for 2020. Since 2001, greyhound racing has received more than a quarter of a billion euros of taxpayers' money. Please contact your local TDs and demand that they vote against this funding. Visit the Oireachtas website for contact details for TDs https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/members/tds/?term=/ie/oireachtas/house/dail/33
Contact Fine Gael, Fianna Fail and Labour Party TDs and urge them to vote against any further funding for cruel greyhound racing.
