Save the Piviniit Thrift Store!

The Issue

The Piviniit Society that oversees the operation of the non-profit Piviniit Thrift Store is devastated to announce that we were informed today by our landlord, the Qajuqturvik Community Food Centre, that we will be evicted from our current space at Building 655 on September 15, 2021. We are heartbroken by this news and are not ready to close our doors, so WE NEED YOUR HELP.

If you do not want to see the Piviniit Thrift Store close in September, please sign our online petition to maintain our current space beyond September 15th. We will also be collecting signatures in-person at our outdoor stuff-a-bag sale on Saturday July 17 from 11am-3pm and every day that Piviniit is open (Thursday evenings 6-8:30pm and Saturdays 10am-4:30pm).

Piviniit has been operational since 2009 and we have done so much good for Iqaluit and Nunavut during this time. We have alleviated the effects of poverty for many by selling gently-used clothing and housewares at the most affordable prices in Iqaluit, saved countless treasures from the landfill, re-donated our earnings to important local initiatives like breakfast programs, given free clothing and housewares to victims of house fires, and most recently have re-initiated a program to distribute free clothing to Nunavummiut in need in all communities outside of Iqaluit. Piviniit is completely volunteer-run and we do all of this because we believe in what Piviniit stands for and the positive impact that we have in the community and the territory as a whole.

The Piviniit Thrift Store would not be what it is today without the amazing support of the community of Iqaluit. We need you now more than ever. Please help us save our store.

Qujannamiik, Nakurmiik, Ma’na, Merci, Thank You.
