Witnesses Arrested in Retaliation

Reformation Baptist Church
19 Jun 2017
For several months, we have been hearing rumors that Isaac Newton was preparing charges to retaliate against the Nigerian witnesses in the video. On Tuesday, 6/12, this came to pass. The police arrested two out of the four Nigerians who appeared in the video. Zingak was in Jos when they arrested him and transported him the next morning to Abeokuta about 12 hours away. This is concerning, as Isaac lives in Abeokuta and has much more influence there. The woman in the video, her husband and Zingak's wife followed and when they went to the police station to see Zingak, the woman in the video was also arrested. The other witness is still free but it is our understanding that Isaac is trying to have him arrested as well.
According to one of the Nigerian attorneys representing a witness, the charges are not criminal but civil. We believe that the charges are that they made libelous statements against Isaac and attempted to destroy his livelihood. Under Nigerian law, bail must be set within twenty-four hours in civil cases. It is likely that the police in Abeokuta have been bribed by Isaac to arrest the witnesses and are avoiding due process of law.
On Friday at 10pm the witnesses were released on bail, after some of them having been held for over seventy-two hours without the opportunity to post bail. Today, 6/19, they were scheduled to have a meeting with the police the review the accusations against them and against Isaac.
Please pray for the three witnesses who have been arrested and their families that God would give them the strength and encouragement to stand firm on truth.
Please also spread the word far and wide about this situation. The more people hear about it, the more pressure will be laid upon the Nigerian government to uphold justice in this situation. Although it seems that Isaac Newton was using to this to try to silence those speaking out against him, his actions brought the witnesses testimony up to the eyes of more people in the Nigeria government. Pray that God uses this to bring him to justice.
