Investigate unethical practices in Indian hospitals

Investigate unethical practices in Indian hospitals

The Issue

  1. Hospital Scam

My sister-in-law tragically passed away, and her death was a heartbreaking eye-opener to the alarming practices within some Indian hospitals. During her treatment, we encountered multiple instances where financial exploitation overshadowed genuine medical care. The experience was disorienting, and it became evident that certain facilities prioritize profits over patient wellbeing, employing illegal and unethical tactics in the process.

India is currently experiencing an ever-increasing demand for quality healthcare services; however, this demand is at times met with exploitation rather than support. Some hospitals indulge in unnecessary procedures, inflate bills with hidden charges, and sometimes delay vital medical information to the families for financial gain. The situation reflects not a few isolated incidents, but a persistent issue that wrongs countless families every day.

According to the National Health Authority, overcharge complaints against hospitals have significantly risen, alarming the authorities. A 2020 report from the Indian Council of Medical Research underscored deeply rooted discrepancies within the healthcare billing systems, signalling a systemic problem.

In light of these distressing realities, it is imperative to demand stringent governmental action and oversight. We urge the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to establish an independent body that will systematically audit hospitals across the country. This body must effectively enforce compliance with ethical healthcare practices and a strict no-tolerance policy toward malpractices.

Furthermore, we call for a transparent and accessible complaint system for patients and their families, ensuring swift investigations and justice for victims of medical exploitation. These measures will hold accountable those who choose to place monetary gain above human life, and pave the way for a health system that prioritizes integrity, transparency, and genuine care.

Sign this petition to demand accountability and reform in Indian hospitals. Together, we can push for a healthcare system that values and affirms life above all else.
