The Issue

I am writing this petition as a student who has personally experienced the detrimental effects of unfair political interference in the Indian educational sector, specifically in the setting of CBSE board examination question papers for the 2025–2026 academic year. Many students, like myself, who have opted for basic mathematics—often because they find mathematics particularly challenging and wish to pursue non-mathematical streams in the future—are facing undue hardship due to these unethical practices. The manipulation of exam papers does not only jeopardize our academic success but also crushes the dreams of thousands of students who hope to pursue fields other than mathematics in their future studies.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) boasts a legacy of providing unbiased and standardized education. However, recent trends suggest troubling interference. Reliable sources and several media reports have pointed to an increasing political influence in the setting of exam papers, leading to a lack of transparency and fairness. These unethical practices not only impact the integrity of the examination process but also undermine the credibility of the educational system in India.

In the 2025 board examinations, we noticed a marked disparity between the set papers for basic and advanced mathematics. The basic mathematics paper, traditionally aimed at students who struggle with the subject, was inappropriately challenging and contested that of the advanced mathematics paper in difficulty. Such inconsistency violates the purpose of offering subject flexibility and fairness to students.

We urge the competent educational authorities, constitutional bodies, and public grievance redressal forums to conduct a thorough investigation into the preparation and setting of the examination papers. We seek corrective action to ensure transparency, accountability, and fairness in the process.

As students, parents, and educators, we demand ethical practices in the educational sector, free from political interference. Education should empower, not overpower or intimidate. Let's stand together to protect our future and that of generations to come. I urge everyone who believes in fair education to sign this petition in support of a transparent and unbiased educational system.
