Hello, my name is Jessica Eden and my puppy was recently a victim of the CDPHE not following their own guidelines set for quarantining an animals exposed to rabies.

 

Here is our story:

 

Our little Musubi was 10 weeks old when we adopted him from a local rescue called MAMCO.

 

This rescue helps get animals out of hoarding, high kill risk situations and brings them to Denver, CO where they receive vaccinations appropriate for their age, and medical care prior to adopting. 

 

Our Musubi was saved from a hoarding situation in Texas, where he was at risk of being put down. MAMCO saved our little guy, and 11 others. 

 

Unfortunately, one of his siblings began showing symptoms of rapids after a seizure, and was put down for testing to confirm. His "sample" was set via mail, and may or may not have been lost for 5 days in the mail 

When the state was asked to provide a second option for testing, they refused as said they "had what they needed".

Our family, and the others were given two options:

1) euthanize

2) 120 days in quarantine (90 days in a "secure facility" and 30 more day of at home quarantine). 

The state wanted to jump on our decisions and most, if not all, families decided to go with the quarantine route.

Several of us banned together to seek lawyers in this situation to negotiate the terms down to 60 days in the secure facility, and 30 days at home. These were 11 week old puppies now, and this was a vital time for bonding and socialization. None of us wanted to traumatize our pups, so we were trying to negotiate the terms on their behalf. 

The following day, without any warning, the state ambushed us all attempted to seize the remaining (healthy, asymptomatic) puppies for immediate euthanasia. Later in the day AFTER they came to our doors, they made a press release stating they were doing this due to no having space at their facilities. We were never contacted prior to them arriving at our door, only given a warning from the rescue who they had already ambushed right before.

I immediately began reaching out to news platforms for help. The state had also done the same, and was trying to spin their "compassionate" narrative. The state began claiming they were concerned for the human's safety, and that we all needed to contact a risk assessment line. When we did call to see if we should be getting the recommended vaccination, we were grilled about where our puppy was instead. Finally, when asked if we could get the vaccine since they were afraid of our exposure potentially to the infected puppy, they recommended we DON'T get the vaccination. They did this to several other families as well who ended up surrendering their pups due to potential exposure. To this date, zero people exposed as far as I know have been able to receive this vaccine.

Just yesterday, while only a few puppies remained alive, they claimed publicly that they were urging us to "surrender" our puppies. We requested to speak with ANYONE and discuss this, but they met our request with search warrants, and armed men at our doors. 

 

Ultimately, all 11 puppies were murdered by the state, an no humans have received ANY guidance on how we should be handling our own health and safety, as well as if WE should quarantining in the meantime. We still have ZERO knowledge on if our puppy is actually getting tested, and if so when we'll be able to hear those results.

 

It is VERY clear to us this was about controlling the narrative on their part, NOT about public safety. They've misled the public, and they've misled you, my friend. They wanted nothing more than to hide their ability to control a HIGHLY infectious disease in a compassionate way that gives their community the OPTIONS they CLAIM to give. 

 

If this could happen to us, it can happen to you. We need something to change, we need this investigated from someone federal.

They weren't truly prepared to EVER offer a quarantine, why not? Did they not actually HAVE a facility?
