Investigate Jeff Taylor's Possible Sexual Abuse at Church of the Apostles, Atlanta

The Issue

To Dr. Youssef, the Vestry, and leaders at Church of the Apostles, Atlanta:

As I am sure you are aware, the Falls Church Anglican released a report on April 18, 2024 based on the findings of an independent investigation into allegations of sexual abuse of minors by my father, Jeffrey T. Taylor, during his tenure as their youth minister. The investigation report concluded that Jeff engaged in both overt and covert sexual abuse as well as patterns of grooming.

I believe that we have just begun to scratch the surface of his abuse. It is imperative that you not assume that abuse did not happen in your church.

Jeff was employed by Church of the Apostles from February 2002 until April/May 2004. Statistically, we know that the the probability that Jeff engaged in sexual abuse of minors in your church is extremely high.

I (and each person signing this petition) ask that you launch a full, independent, and transparent investigation using GRACE, the gold-standard organization which specializes in these matters, to uncover any abuse by Jeff during his time at Church of the Apostles, allowing all that is hidden in darkness to come to light. I also ask that you and your leadership team hire trauma experts to provide resources and counseling for victims and their families discovered in the investigation. I also implore you to fully cooperate with law enforcement. Finally, I ask that you review all sexual abuse policies at Church of the Apostles and update them according to recommendations GRACE provides as a result of their investigation. These actions are vital first steps in justice, healing, and truth.

I write this petition as Jeff’s son, a father, a priest, a former student at both Cornerstone (The Falls Church) and STS (Church of the Apostles), and an advocate for victims and their families. Signers of this petition include survivors of Jeff’s sexual abuse and their family members, former students in his ministries, concerned parents, faith leaders, advocates for sexual abuse victims, and survivors of abuse by other perpetrators.

We urge you to take immediate action.
